Senior Associate, Capacity Building
Location: Washington, DC (flexible hybrid schedule)
Base salary: $75,000 – $95,000, commensurate with education and experience, eligible for annual bonuses

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Associate, Capacity Building to lead a portfolio of engagements that strengthen leadership and organizational capacity across the P–20 education continuum and within youth and adult learning and workforce systems.
As a Senior Associate on our team, you will design and manage client engagements focused on leadership development, training, facilitation, and organizational growth. You will guide initiatives such as retreats, professional learning, and coaching that build long-term capacity. You will provide guidance and oversight of programming for youth and adults. The Senior Associate will typically contribute to 3–4 projects at a time, from launch through completion.
This role is ideal for someone who combines an entrepreneurial outlook with strategic thinking, hands-on facilitation and training experience, and a strong commitment to advancing equity through capacity-building practices.

Designing and implementing a leadership development framework for leaders across a school system.

Leading a multi-day retreat for a higher education–based research center to strengthen governance, alignment, and shared vision.

Building leadership capacity of workforce development providers and adult learning practitioners through professional learning and facilitation on equity-centered practices.

Designing and overseeing a workforce development/job-readiness training program

Scaling a coaching model for school and district leaders within the P–20 continuum.

Designing organizational development strategies and leadership pipelines for nonprofits and intermediaries serving youth and adult learners.
Essential Responsibilities

Project and Training Design and Delivery: Manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects with a focus on leadership development, training, and facilitation; ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.

Client Partnership: Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with client leadership teams.

Leadership Development Design: Create and implement frameworks, curricula, and tools for leadership coaching, capacity building, and organizational growth.

Facilitation Excellence: Design and facilitate high-stakes retreats, workshops, and professional learning sessions using protocols that drive alignment, growth, and continuous improvement.

Team Development: Mentor and supervise associates and contractors; model best practices in leadership and capacity-building.

Stakeholder Engagement: Lead inclusive engagement processes that ensure diverse perspectives shape leadership and organizational strategies.

Thought Leadership: Contribute to the firm’s visibility by publishing insights, speaking at conferences, and representing Opportunity Consulting in the field.

Continuous Improvement: Drive internal learning on leadership development and capacity building; integrate lessons learned into firm practices.
Required Qualifications

5+ years of relevant professional experience, including demonstrated leadership in leadership development, training, facilitation, or organizational capacity building.

Proven track record of designing and leading leadership development initiatives, coaching models, or executive learning programs.

Strong facilitation skills with experience leading executive-level retreats, workshops, or trainings.

Familiarity with the early childhood, P–20 education continuum, and/or adult learning and workforce systems.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex ideas and engage diverse stakeholders.

Strong organizational skills and experience managing multi-phase projects from design through implementation, managing timelines and deliverables to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Demonstrated commitment to equity, social justice, and continuous learning.
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced training in education, organizational development, public policy, social sciences, or a related field.

Experience in consulting or other client-facing roles.

Experience in organizational change, leadership pipeline development, or executive coaching.

Demonstrated success designing and delivering high-impact training, facilitation, or professional learning programs.

Familiarity with facilitation protocols, strategic planning frameworks, and project management tools.
